Minister
of National Defence General Ngo Xuan Lich on February 19 had a meeting with
his Cambodian counterpart General Tea Banh on the sidelines of the ASEAN
Defence Ministers’ Meeting Retreat (ADMM Retreat) in Hanoi.
Both ministers expressed their delight over the fruitful traditional friendship,
comprehensive cooperation between the two militaries, and the two countries as a
whole.
In the past years, bilateral defence cooperation has served as a pillar in the
Vietnam-Cambodia ties, with regular exchanges of delegations at all levels,
maintenance of cooperation mechanisms, as well as collaboration in human
resources training, border management and protection, and search and
repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid
down their lives during war time in Cambodia.
General Tea Banh, who is also Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, commended
Vietnam’s preparation for the ADMM Retreat, and many other military conferences,
believing that under the chair of Vietnam, such cooperation mechanisms as ADMM
and ADMM Plus will continue to prove effective and play an important role in the
regional security architecture.
The two ministers agreed to direct competent agencies to effectively carry out
the inked cooperation deals, while enhancing communication to raise public
awareness of the traditional friendship between the two nations so as to thwart
plots to divide the sound relations by hostile forces./.
